A group of United Nations human rights experts has called on countries to suspend arms transfers to Israel, citing alleged violations of international humanitarian law. The appeal was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by 19 independent experts, including special rapporteurs.
The experts accused Israel of breaching a two-week truce and carrying out fresh attacks in Lebanon, including strikes on Beirut that reportedly killed more than 350 people. A separate attack shortly before the statement was issued is said to have left at least 16 people dead.
They described the military actions as a violation of the UN Charter and called for an immediate halt to operations, compliance with ceasefire terms and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. The group also urged the United States to use its influence to stop further strikes on civilians and infrastructure.

The statement follows continued tensions in the region despite a ceasefire agreement linked to earlier talks involving the United States and Iran, with disagreement over whether the truce applies to Lebanon.
