The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is shutting down its operations in Nigeria.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Professor Nentawe Goshwe, announced the development on Wednesday during a workshop in Abuja, saying the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mohamed Fall, informed him of the decision.

The move comes as the UN agency faces a $60 million funding shortfall for 2025 leading to a reduction in its global workforce by 20 percent and scaling back or exit operations in nine countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan, and Libya.
Professor Goshwe described the decision as unfortunate given Nigeria’s ongoing humanitarian challenges but reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to disaster and poverty response.
