Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York and holding follow-up engagements in Germany.
In New York, he delivered Nigeria’s national statement, pressing for comprehensive UN reforms, stronger African control over mineral wealth, and wider global partnerships. He also secured backing from UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria’s campaign for a permanent Security Council seat.

The Vice President highlighted a $200 billion energy transition opportunity to investors and deepened ties with the UK, Gates Foundation, and other partners. He also engaged Nigeria’s diaspora community before concluding talks in Germany.
