Nigeria international Victor Boniface has responded to mounting criticism over his goal drought at Werder Bremen, insisting that fans and pundits fail to see his broader contribution on the pitch. The 24-year-old forward, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, has yet to score in 13 appearances for Bremen, sparking concern among supporters.

Boniface, who lit up the Bundesliga last season with 14 goals and eight assists for champions Leverkusen, says critics focus too narrowly on statistics. “When you don’t score, people talk — but they don’t really know me,” he said, brushing off social media attacks.

Despite recent struggles, Boniface’s Bundesliga record remains impressive, with 22 goals and 12 assists in 49 matches — making him Nigeria’s fourth all-time top scorer in the competition.
