Former Super Eagles defender Mobi Oparaku has appealed to Nigerians to show greater patience with Victor Boniface, following criticism of the Bayer Leverkusen striker’s performances for the national team.
Despite a stellar debut season in Germany—winning both the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal—Boniface has failed to replicate that form for Nigeria. He was handed a rare start against Russia last Friday but registered just one shot on target before being substituted in the 61st minute.

His replacement, Tolu Arokodare, scored the equaliser—his first for Nigeria—while Victor Boniface later posted, then deleted, a shock retirement message on Instagram.
The incident has fuelled debate over his temperament.
Mobi Oparaku, however, insists Boniface deserves credit for his work rate, urging fans not to judge too quickly.
Meanwhile, Victor Boniface’s future at his club remains uncertain under coach Erik Ten Hag.
