We Would Not Tolerate Any Coup, President Tinubu Says Amidst Reports Of Possible Coup In Niger

Amidst fear of a Possible Coup in Niger, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government says the leadership of the Regional Bloc will not accept any action that impedes the smooth functioning of legitimate authority in Niger or any part of West Africa.

The president in a Statement today says the leadership of the Bloc will do everything within their powers to ensure democracy is firmly planted, nurtured, well rooted and thrives in our region.

According to the ECOWAS chairman leaders in the region are on 

close consultation and together they shall protect the hard earned democratic institutions in the region  in line with the universally acceptable principle of constitutionalism.

He added that that leaders in the region stand firmly with the elected government in the country and that they shall not waiver or flinch on their stand to defend and preserve constitutional order

Reports today report that access to the residence and offices of Niger President Mohamed Bazoum was blocked off today by members of the elite Presidential Guard in a coup-like manner.
