The State Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, says the Federal Government understands the seriousness of the security challenges facing the country and promises to end insecurity before the end of 2024.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Minister Matawalle said the government is adopting a proactive approach to combat bandits before they strike, particularly in the troubled North.

He also said the measures and strategies being taken would end the menace, adding that the measures include pre-empting the gunmen in their homes before they attack, and crush them.
Matawalle, who has been feuding with the governor who succeeded him, Dauda Lawan Dare of the PDP, over allegations of corruption and embezzlement of state funds, added that despite the security challenges confronting Zamfara State, the governor has not contacted him or the minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
