Yoruba Leaders Urge Peace Between Ooni and Alaafin

The Yoruba Leaders of Thought have appealed to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to end their recent dispute.

Tensions resurfaced last week after the Alaafin criticised the Ooni’s decision to confer a title on businessman Dotun Sanusi. Concerned by the fallout, the group’s leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, urged Governors Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Seyi Makinde of Oyo to mediate and restore calm.

In a statement, the body warned that continued hostilities risk diminishing the respect accorded to Yoruba monarchs. It called for the South-West Council of Obas to set up a standing committee to address such conflicts swiftly.

The group also stressed that divisions distract from collective support for President Bola Tinubu, while commending his recent appointment of Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje to head the Pension Commission.
