The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s plan to deploy forest guards as part of renewed efforts to secure Nigeria’s ungoverned spaces.
Speaking in Lagos after visiting the President at his Ikoyi residence on Sunday, the traditional ruler said the initiative is a welcome step towards improving grassroots security and protecting rural communities.
He assured that traditional leaders across the country would support the programme to ensure its success, while also calling for a more defined role for monarchs in national development.

The Ooni also commended the President’s economic reforms, stating that such measures were restoring investor confidence. He referenced the harmonisation of Nigeria’s foreign exchange system, which he believes is making the country more attractive to international business.
He described the forest guard restructuring as a significant move toward long-term peace, stability, and stronger community engagement in national security.
