14 killed as plane crashes near South Sudan capital Juba

South Sudan’s civil aviation authority says all 14 people on board a Cessna 208 Caravan have been killed after the aircraft crashed on the outskirts of the capital, Juba, on Monday. The aircraft, operated by CityLink Aviation, lost communication while flying from Yei to Juba International Airport.

The authority says initial reports suggest the crash may have been caused by bad weather and poor visibility. The passenger list included two Kenyan nationals, while the rest were South Sudanese.

Emergency teams have been deployed to the crash site, about 20 kilometres southwest of Juba, to gather evidence and support recovery efforts. Images from the scene show the wreckage engulfed in flames.
