Telecoms operator 9mobile has confirmed its new national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria, with full rollout expected this July. The three-year deal will allow 9mobile subscribers to access MTN’s extensive network infrastructure across the country.
Announcing the move, 9mobile CEO Obafemi Banigbe said the partnership aims to enhance coverage, improve service quality, and boost operational efficiency, all without requiring any action from users—provided their lines remain active.

The arrangement, described as a commercial partnership, comes amid ongoing challenges to 9mobile’s market competitiveness.
Banigbe stressed that billing and branding will remain unchanged for customers, and both firms will continue to compete independently. He said the initiative promotes infrastructure sharing and could help attract fresh foreign investment into Nigeria’s telecoms sector.
