The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, says the first set of stranded Nigerians from Sudan, have arrived in Aswan, Egypt. Due to their late arrival, they could not enter Egypt as the border was closed. They are expected to leave in the morning and proceed thereafter to the Airport.
Earlier on, during the weekly ministerial briefing which is organised by the Presidential Communication Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, she said the interest of more Nigerians to return home than previously indicated would pose a challenge.
According to the NiDCOM boss, over three million Nigerians reside in Sudan and efforts were being made to evacuate as many as possible, if the war persisted, adding that priority will be on children, students and women.
One of the Nigerian students still in Khartoum, Abubakar Sadiq, says his colleagues are gathering money to transport themselves to neighbouring Egypt.
