Nigerian-based athletes include national 100m champion Chidera Ezeakor, Olympian Enoch Adegoke, Tejiri Godwin, Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson, Rosemary Chigozie, Emmanuel Ojeli, Nathaniel Samson, Sikiru Adeyemi, and Patience Okon George.

The AFN received over one thousand entries for the trials, which are being held between June 21 and 23, 2026. AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa commended both young and elite athletes who have enjoyed an outstanding season so far. He said the AFN board is striving hard in close collaboration with the National Sports Commission to make the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow the most successful outing for Nigeria.

Okowa urged the athletes to compete fairly at the trials as they hope to see them set new records and personal bests in various events. He expressed confidence that the team selected from these trials would perform well at the Commonwealth Games. The trials will determine the athletes who will represent Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
