Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, says the lower legislative chamber will amend the constitution to “possibly” increase the number of women in parliament.
Speaker Abbas said this in Abuja yesterday at the international conference on women in governance organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
The lawmaker described the process of political inclusion of women in Nigeria as lagging, noting that many countries around the world have made significant strides.

In March 2022, the ninth national assembly rejected five gender-focused bills during the consideration of the constitutional amendment.
Some of the bills rejected included one that sought to create an extra 111 seats for women, and legislation on 35 percent affirmative action.
