Seven people have been confirmed dead following a building collapse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Abdulrahman Mohammed, revealed this during an inspection of the site along Airport Road on Sunday.
According to Mr. Mohammed, the collapse occurred on Saturday as people attempted to scavenge materials from a building that was under demolition by the Federal Capital Development Control due to issues with the building’s land documents.
He also confirmed that two survivors are currently receiving treatment at a hospital and cautioned the public to avoid risking their lives by entering or scavenging in demolished structures.
While the exact number of people present in the building at the time of the collapse remains unknown, Mohammed assured that rescue operations are ongoing at the site.
