Patients evacuated after fire at Abuja National Hospital

A fire outbreak at the oncology unit of the National Hospital in Abuja has forced the evacuation of patients and medical staff from the facility.

The incident happened on Monday and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault. Hospital authorities said the fire was quickly contained before it spread to other sections of the hospital.

Patients undergoing treatment, including those receiving chemotherapy and emergency care, were moved to safer units within the hospital as a precaution. No injuries or deaths were reported, although operations at the affected department were temporarily relocated.

A witness said the incident followed repeated power fluctuations and the smell of burning wires before smoke spread through the building. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
