Election observer group, Yiaga Africa, has urged authorities to prosecute electoral offenders arrested during the Ondo State governorship election. The call was part of an eight-point recommendation released by the organisation following its observation of the polls.
Speaking at a media conference in Akure, Yiaga’s 2024 Ondo election mission chairman, Ezenwa Nwagwu, commended voters for maintaining peace during the voting, counting, and collation of results. He noted that the overall conduct of the election reflected the maturity of the electorate.
However, Nwagwu condemned incidents of vote buying, describing it as a significant threat to the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process. Yiaga Africa emphasized that decisive actions against such practices are essential to safeguard democracy and restore public confidence in elections.
