Suspected political thugs attacked a Permanent Voter Card distribution centre in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State on Sunday, firing sporadically and making away with several packs of PVCs before fleeing.
Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said about ten armed hoodlums invaded Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, disrupting the peaceful distribution exercise. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan condemned the attack and ordered a full investigation.
Osun Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun blamed APC-affiliated hoodlums for the invasion, calling it a grave assault on the electoral process. APC’s campaign spokesperson Oluremi Omowaiye instead accused Egbedun of bankrolling the attack.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola confirmed and condemned the incident, saying the exact number of missing PVCs is still being verified.
