Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah Proposes Record N971bn Budget for 2025

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah Proposes Record N971bn Budget for 2025

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has presented a record-breaking N971 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. Titled ‘Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity’, the proposal includes N837.9 billion for capital expenditure (86%) and N133.1 billion for recurrent expenditure (14%), surpassing  the previous record of N521.5 billion in 2024.

The 2025 budget prioritises education, allocating N320.6 billion, over 33% of the total budget, for the second consecutive year. Key investments will also focus on critical infrastructure, including roads, water supply, transport, energy, and the modernisation of public services.

Speaking on the budget, Governor Mbah emphasised that the spending aligns with his administration’s goal of eradicating poverty and ensuring inclusive development.  He highlighted significant progress in the state’s revenue generation, with Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) rising from N37.4 billion in 2023 to N144.7 billion by September 2024—a 286% increase, which he says is due to deliberate efforts to reduce reliance on federal allocations.
