The International Federation of Journalists, IFJ, has revealed that 104 journalists and media workers have been killed worldwide so far in 2024, with over half of these deaths occurring during Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip.
In its latest report, the IFJ noted that at least 138 journalists have lost their lives since hostilities escalated on October 7, 2023. Among them, 55 Palestinian media professionals were killed this year alone.

The federation also raised concerns over a sharp rise in the number of journalists imprisoned globally. The figure now stands at 520, up significantly from 427 recorded in the previous year.
With the year’s total fatalities nearing 2023’s figure of 129, the IFJ has warned that the number could climb further before the end of December.
