The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has completed the transfer of regulatory oversight for the electricity market in Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, and Ondo States to their respective state governments.
In a statement issued on Monday, NERC confirmed that as of January 10, 2025, it had commenced the process of transferring regulatory control to ten states. However, the transfer is still ongoing in Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, and Niger States.

The transfer process began on April 22, 2024, when NERC approved the handover of electricity market regulation to Enugu and Ekiti States, with Ondo State receiving its approval the following day, April 23. Subsequently, on July 1, 2024, NERC transferred oversight of Imo’s power market to the state’s own electricity regulatory commission.
