EFCC confirms killing of officer in Anambra, says personnel were on legitimate duty

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent Officer Aminu Salisu, who it said was on legitimate duty in Anambra state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale reported that Officer Salisu was fatally shot while performing his duties during an operation to arrest one Mr Joshua Ikechukwu, a suspected internet fraudster, on Friday.

Mr. Oyewale said that Mr Ikechukwu, who had been monitoring the officers via closed-circuit television cameras installed at his residence, declined to open his door when approached, despite the officers’ polite request. 

According to him, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Salisu and injuring another officer who was tasked with conducting a search of the premises.
