Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over freezing the state’s Federal Statutory Allocation Account, which Adeleke says was carried out without lawful authority. He is demanding N2 billion in damages.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, lists the Osun State Attorney-General and Accountant-General as co-plaintiffs alongside the governor. The EFCC, its chairman and First Bank of Nigeria Limited are listed as defendants. No hearing date has yet been set.
This latest development follows a directive from President Tinubu to the EFCC ordering the agency to ask the court to vacate the freeze order and — quote — “discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government.”
In a letter dated August 5, 2026, the EFCC — through an official identified as ACE I Adenike S. Babalola, writing for the Director of Investigation — had directed First Bank to place restrictions on the state’s statutory account, saying that it had detected suspicious transfers of funds beginning August 2nd.
