Ceasefire in Gaza Begins Amid Prisoner Swap Deal

Ninety Palestinians held in Israeli prisons are set to be released following the return of three Israeli captives held in Gaza, as part of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. The truce commenced at 09:15 GMT, despite a nearly three-hour delay during which Al Jazeera reports say Israeli airstrikes killed at least 19 Palestinians.

Thousands of displaced Gazans have begun returning to the ruins of their homes as the ceasefire takes hold. Hamas has announced that the next prisoner exchange is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, with four Israelis expected to be freed. This timeline was confirmed by Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan 11.
