Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Military Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will headline a two-day conference in Abuja starting Monday. The event will focus on strengthening Nigeria’s democracy in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Other prominent figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and 2023 NNPP candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are also scheduled to speak. The theme of the conference is “Strengthening Nigeria Democracy: Pathway to Good Governance and Political Integrity.”

Former Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, will deliver the keynote address, while Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim will discuss the challenges, prospects, and outlook for the 2027 elections. The conference aims to address critical issues threatening Nigeria’s democratic system.
Dr. Otive Igbuzor, one of the organisers and Executive Director of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, said the event is designed to spark discussions on key challenges such as electoral malpractices, corruption, and weakened governance structures. The goal is to propose lasting solutions for Nigeria’s democratic future.
