The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has withdrawn from the local government election scheduled for Saturday, February 22, citing legal concerns. In a letter dated February 17 and addressed to the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), party spokesperson Alao Kamorudeen stated that participating in the poll would contradict a ruling by the Court of Appeal.
Political tensions in the state escalated on Monday when a clash between APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters over the attempted resumption of sacked LG chairpersons resulted in the deaths of five people. The Osun State caucus in the National Assembly and Governor Ademola Adeleke have accused Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of orchestrating the violence.

Amid the ongoing crisis, some of the removed APC chairpersons and councillors returned to their respective LG secretariats on February 19, insisting on resuming their positions. The situation remains tense as security agencies monitor developments closely.
