Osun Governor Adeleke Says Ataoja of Osogbo Was Shot at by APC Thugs During Palace Invasion

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II, was shot at by thugs during a recent invasion of his palace, and that the thugs were sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a social media post on Sunday, the governor said the monarch was attacked because he publicly endorsed him for a second term in office, a move that did not sit well with leaders of the Osun APC, and that the Ataoja was the target of the shooting as his subjects were hit by live bullets.

Adeleke urged the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, whom he described as a bona fide son of Osogbo, to call his party members to order, asking why they sent thugs to his father’s palace and desecrated the throne that raised him. He called on the Inspector General of Police to act urgently, stating that desperate politicians must be exposed and disgraced.

In a video attached to the governor’s post, the Osogbo monarch recounted how he survived an attack during the recent wave of violence that rocked Osogbo and Ede. He added that the culprit is now in remand in Ilesa and he appealed to warring parties in the state to resolve their disputes through the ballot.

Governor Adeleke said an attack on the Ataoja is an attack on every son and daughter of Osogbo.
