The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced a new date for the commencement of campaigns for the Osun State governorship election. The electoral body says political campaigns will now begin on August 13, 2026, following an adjustment to the election timetable.
INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Mohammed Haruna, said the decision became necessary after the governorship election was moved from August 8 to August 15, 2026. He explained that the shift aligns campaign activities with the revised election schedule.
According to the commission, political parties are expected to conclude campaigns by midnight on August 13, 2026. This, INEC noted, is in line with the Electoral Act, which requires all campaigns to end at least twenty-four hours before election day.
