The Enugu State Government has warned against the activities of an illegal taskforce claiming to collect revenue on its behalf. The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, said the administration of Governor Peter Mbah remains committed to transparency, accountability, and traceability.
Professor Onyia clarified that the state government had not established a “Government House Environmental Taskforce” to collect revenue. He condemned the group’s activities, vowing to investigate and prosecute those involved under the law.

He further explained that the only recognised committee set up by the government was tasked with exploring solutions to scavenging threats and creating a structured recycling process in collaboration with the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA).
Residents were urged not to pay money to anyone posing as a government revenue collector. The SSG added that Governor Mbah has ordered the immediate recovery of funds collected illegally by the fraudulent taskforce.
