Indigenes of Owu Kingdom in Ogun State have protested what they describe as an “unfortunate imbalance” in the allocation of political wards in Abeokuta North Local Government Area. Despite having a large population and strong voter registration, Owu residents claim they are unfairly limited to just three wards.
The Concerned Apex Citizens of Owu Kingdom staged a demonstration at the Olowu Palace in Abeokuta, carrying placards demanding additional wards. They argued that while Oke-Ona, Gbagura, and Oke-Ogun enjoy more wards, Owu, with 42,264 registered voters, remains underrepresented.

Spokesman for the group, Pastor Sola Makinde, said INEC’s 2023 election data shows Owu ranks second in voter registration yet has fewer wards than other communities. He added that this imbalance had contributed to voter apathy and called for three new wards to improve representation.
Makinde urged INEC to use its constitutional powers to correct the disparity, emphasising that Owu Kingdom deserved fair and equitable political representation.
