The Court of Appeal in Abuja has halted the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
A three-member panel led by Justice Okon Abang issued the ruling on Friday, suspending the January 10 judgment that vacated Sanusi II’s removal. The court agreed that the matter, involving chieftaincy and state legislative issues, should have been handled by the Kano State High Court, not the Federal High Court.

Justice Abang stressed the need to preserve the subject matter, noting that Sanusi II had previously served as emir for five years before his removal and deserved protection pending the Supreme Court’s decision.
The court also awarded N500,000 in costs against the applicant, Aminu Baba-Dan’Agundi, in favour of the Kano State House of Assembly, while striking out Dan’Agundi’s suit filed at the Federal High Court.
