The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has issued a public alert over falsified Oxycontin 80mg (oxycodone hydrochloride), which was detected in an unregulated market in Switzerland.
According to NAFDAC, the alert, labelled No. 07/2025, was published on its website on Thursday after the genuine manufacturer, MUNDIPHARMA, reported the issue to the World Health Organisation in February. The counterfeit product mimics the authentic OXYCONTIN 80mg authorised for sale in Poland.

The agency warned that the falsified version contains undeclared nitazene compounds, a class of potent synthetic opioids linked to multiple fatalities. Even in small doses, nitazenes pose a significant risk of overdose and death.
Oxycontin is a prescription medication used for managing moderate to severe pain. NAFDAC has urged the public and healthcare providers to exercise caution and report any suspected falsified products to the authorities.
