NAFDAC has intensified enforcement against sachet and small-bottle alcohol, launching coordinated raids across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones this week.
The operation, targeting alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles under 200ml, follows the closure of manufacturing facilities found violating the ban, first enforced in February 2024 after a Senate directive against further moratorium extensions. Enforcement teams are targeting markets, motor parks, retail outlets and bars nationwide, seizing and removing banned products.
NAFDAC has directed manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to immediately surrender remaining stock, warning that continued possession or sale risks seizure, regulatory sanctions and prosecution. The agency said the campaign aims to curb underage drinking and substance abuse, and urged the public to report violations to the nearest NAFDAC office or its toll-free line.
