The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has rejected a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing non-compliance with procedural requirements.
INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, disclosed that while the petition from Kogi Central Senatorial District was accompanied by six bags of documents containing signatures from over half of the 474,554 registered voters, key submission criteria were not met.

Officials noted the absence of essential contact details, including addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of the petitioners’ representatives. Under electoral regulations, these are mandatory for further processing.
INEC stated that if a properly submitted petition meets its requirements, the Commission would initiate a verification exercise, restricted to signatories, in an open process at polling units.
The recall effort, covering five local government areas, remains stalled unless petitioners rectify the procedural lapses.
