Nigeria’s electoral commission has begun distributing Permanent Voter Cards in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, as Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council raises concerns over potential irregularities.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola said PVC collection runs from July 22–28 at the state’s 332 Registration Areas, before continuing at Local Government offices from July 29 to August 7, daily between 9 am and 3 pm. Collection is strictly personal; collection by proxy is prohibited under the Electoral Act.
Speaking separately, Imole Campaign Council Director-General Lere Oyewumi cited concerns from recent elections in Ogun, Oyo, Jigawa and Ekiti states, alleging “mercenary voters” received PVCs shortly before polling.
He also cited reports of insufficient ballot materials, pre-thumb-printed ballots, and BVAS technical issues from recent polls in the FCT, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, Rivers, Kano and Kebbi, urging INEC to ensure the same issues do not plague the Osun election.
Separately, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru pledged that the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would prioritise civil servant welfare and agricultural development if elected.
