Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the north, insisting such a move would repeat the strategic error of 2023.
Speaking in Abuja during a televised media chat, the former Rivers State governor argued that the party must openly commit to a southern candidate if it hopes to regain national traction.

Mr. Wike questioned the logic of mirroring the ruling All Progressives Congress’ political trajectory, suggesting it would undermine the PDP’s credibility.
His comments appeared aimed at 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who recently reaffirmed his intention to contest again, citing Abraham Lincoln’s persistence as inspiration.
Party insiders remain divided on the zoning debate.
