The Federal Government has endorsed a new pharmaceutical policy dubbed ‘Medipool’ which is designed to drive down the cost of medicines and essential medical supplies across Nigeria.
The initiative was approved at Monday’s Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Under the new framework, ‘Medipool’ will function as a group purchasing organisation, enabling bulk procurement of drugs and medical consumables at more competitive rates.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, described the policy as a strategic intervention aimed at improving affordability and access to quality healthcare nationwide.
The scheme aims to reduce inefficiencies in the supply chain, strengthen national health systems, and deliver savings that may be redirected toward other public health priorities.
