The Abia State Police Command has arrested a couple, Blessing and Sunday Emebo, for running an unregistered children’s home in their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.
Police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, revealing that 12 children aged between two months and 14 years were rescued from the premises on 19 May. The children reportedly came from various villages in Arochukwu Local Government Area.

Among the rescued were nine boys and three girls, including Ojiugo Caleb, 14, and Testimony Emebo, a two-month-old infant. The children have been placed in the custody of the state Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
The suspects are currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and prioritise child safety.
