Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies recorded over 254,000 customer complaints in the first quarter of 2025, with most grievances linked to faulty metering, billing inaccuracies, and poor service, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has revealed.
Though total complaints fell by 7.7% from the previous quarter, Port Harcourt DisCo topped the list with 57,843 cases—over a fifth of all complaints. Yola DisCo received the least at 2,495.

NERC noted significant increases in complaints in Kano, Kaduna, and Yola, while Abuja DisCo saw a sharp drop of 74%.
Billing disputes alone led to refunds exceeding ₦32.2bn. Despite public discontent, DisCos raked in ₦553.6bn in revenue, raising concerns about the mismatch between service delivery and customer satisfaction.
