Governor Gavin Newsom blamed the ongoing federal government shutdown for the staffing gap, saying it was caused by political deadlock in Washington.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed flight delays of up to two and a half hours, while operations were temporarily managed from San Diego. Airport officials said services continued but advised passengers to check with airlines for possible cancellations.

The shutdown, now in its second week, has forced thousands of federal employees to work without pay, including essential staff such as air traffic controllers. Observers warn the strain on critical services could worsen if the political impasse between Republicans and Democrats over healthcare and budget issues continues.
