Zinedine Zidane has been appointed head coach of the French national football team, succeeding Didier Deschamps. The French Football Federation confirmed the appointment on a four-year contract running through the 2030 World Cup.
Zidane, who captained France to the 1998 World Cup title as a player, said the national team job was the only one he wanted after leaving Real Madrid in 2021. He said he had turned down club offers while waiting for the opportunity to lead Les Bleus.
Zidane returns to management after a successful spell at Real Madrid, where he won three consecutive Champions League titles. He takes charge following France’s fourth-place finish at this year’s World Cup. His first match will be against Turkey in the Nations League in September.
