Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, says the United States’ decision to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern is the outcome of failed leadership and poor governance. Writing on X, Mr Obi warned that the move, which hints at possible US military action, should deeply worry Nigerians.
He said the country’s worsening insecurity, which Amnesty International estimates has claimed more than 10,000 lives since May 2023, reflects a lack of competence, prudence, and patriotism among those in power. He accused the APC-led government of failing to protect citizens and manage national resources effectively.

Mr Obi called for renewed diplomacy between Abuja and Washington, urging both nations to work together urgently to restore peace, justice, and stability across Nigeria.
