Gabon’s head coach, Thierry Mouyouma, says his team will adopt a special tactical plan to contain Nigeria’s in-form striker, Victor Osimhen, in their 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff.
He described the Super Eagles forward as unpredictable and capable of punishing any defensive lapse.
Osimhen has scored six goals in five qualifying appearances, including a hat-trick in Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Benin. His current form for club and country has made him one of the most feared strikers in world football.

Mouyouma told reporters in Libreville that defending against Osimhen requires a collective strategy rather than individual marking, acknowledging the Nigerian’s threat from open play and set pieces. The Super Eagles star has vowed to lead Nigeria to next year’s World Cup after missing out in 2022.
