Israel has transferred the bodies of 15 Palestinians, a day after Hamas returned the remains of an Israeli hostage, in the latest exchange under the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreed last month. Two further bodies — an Israeli national and a Thai citizen abducted during the 7 October 2023 attacks — are yet to be recovered. Hamas says extensive destruction in Gaza has complicated efforts, while Israel accuses the group of delaying.
Mediators from Turkey, Qatar and Egypt met in Cairo this week to discuss the next phase of the truce, which includes plans for an International Stabilisation Force and a new governance structure for Gaza. Indonesia has signalled readiness to deploy 20,000 peacekeepers.

Meanwhile, Palestinian officials report a “wide-scale” Israeli military operation in the occupied West Bank, which Israel describes as counterterrorism activity.
