INEC Chair Urges Staff to Strengthen Public Trust Ahead of 2026

Senate Confirms Joash Amupitan as New INEC Chairman

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has urged INEC staff to work towards building public trust ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle. He made the call during an internal engagement with commission personnel.

Prof. Amupitan said public confidence in the electoral process depends largely on the conduct of election officials. He stressed the need for professionalism, transparency and adherence to electoral laws.

The INEC chairman noted that the commission faces increasing scrutiny from Nigerians and said staff must remain impartial and committed to credible elections.

He also added that preparations for future elections are already underway and the commission will continue training and implement reforms to improve election management.
