The Kaduna State Government has shut down 20 unlicensed health colleges and private hospitals across the state as part of efforts to curb illegal medical training and protect public health. The closures were carried out on Friday in Chikun, Igabi, Kaduna North and Kaduna South Local Government Areas.
The State Commissioner for Health, Umma Kaltum-Ahmed, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring compliance with established standards and preventing the training of unqualified healthcare workers. She warned that unaccredited institutions pose serious risks to patients and often issue certificates not recognised by regulatory bodies.
Officials said the affected facilities were operating without proper accreditation or oversight, adding that residents should only enrol in approved institutions to avoid losing time and resources. The commissioner said the action aligns with ongoing health sector reforms under Governor Uba Sani to improve medical training and service delivery.

Authorities said follow-up inspections would continue to identify other illegal facilities, urging affected students and patients to report complaints through official channels. The state government said the enforcement reflects its commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining credible medical education standards.
