The Nigerian Army says troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have carried out intelligence-led air operations against suspected terrorists and armed bandits in parts of Niger and Kaduna states.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Army said the operations were conducted on June 29 after intelligence reports identified the movement and gathering of suspected criminal elements. It said a precision airstrike targeted more than 200 suspected terrorists on motorcycles in the Dogon Dawa area of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, after aerial surveillance confirmed their location.
The Army said its battle damage assessment showed several suspected terrorists were killed, while others fled with injuries. It added that the strike disrupted their activities, reduced their operational capability and prevented them from regrouping for further attacks.
The military also said an armed reconnaissance mission in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State intercepted suspected bandits heading towards Kamuku Forest to launch reprisal attacks. It said follow-up surveillance found no further suspicious activity, reaffirming its commitment to sustained operations against terrorist and bandit groups.
