Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says breaking Nigeria’s all-time goal record is less important to him than winning a major trophy for the country. The 27-year-old was speaking after Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Osimhen scored one goal and provided an assist in the match, taking his tally at the tournament to four and his overall international total to 35 goals. That leaves him two short of the long-standing national record held by Rashidi Yekini, whom Osimhen described as the best striker Nigeria has ever produced.
