The Rivers State Police Command says one person has been killed and eight others injured in a shooting incident in Omoku, Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area. Police said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday along Sambo Street, during a masquerade procession by youths in the area.
According to the police, a confrontation broke out between the masquerading youths and a lawyer, Akpudi Ikechukwu, who was accompanied by four personnel of the Nigeria Forest Guards Security Service. During the altercation, nine members of the masquerade group were shot. One of the victims, identified as Obulo, later died at Omoku Hospital, while the remaining eight are receiving treatment.

Police said Ikechukwu and two other suspects have been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The command said inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the shooting, adding that security patrols have been deployed in the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order, and those found responsible will be prosecuted.
