Military to Try Officers Over Alleged Coup Plot

Military to Try Officers Over Alleged Coup Plot

The Nigerian Armed Forces say some officers will be arraigned before a military judicial panel over allegations of plotting to overthrow the government. The decision follows the conclusion of investigations into the arrest of 16 officers announced in October 2025, according to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

He said the investigation was conducted in line with established military procedures and that the findings had been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority. The Armed Forces said some of the officers were found to have cases to answer over actions described as inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards of the military.
